FCA South Metro Atlanta
On August 3rd a young student/athlete from Locust Grove High School passed away after a week at Scottish Rite Hospital in Atlanta. His name was Forest Jones and he was a lineman on the football team. He collapsed after an off-season workout.
Forest attended an FCA Team Football camp in Tennessee just a few short weeks before his death. South Metro used some of our donations to provide camp scholarships for several of the Locust Grove players. Forest recommitted his life to God at the camp and vocalized his salvation in front of his team, challenging them to join him in committing to a Christ-like life. A memorial service was held at Eagles Landing FBC on Aug 5 with the football teams from Locust Grove, Lovejoy, and Eagles Landing Christian attending. 37 people made salvation decisions at the conclusion of that service!
After the service the ELCA team gathered the other players for an impromptu prayer time in the front of the church. The ELCA players who led this prayer time went to FCA Leadership Camps this summer on scholarships provided by the South Metro board. One board member commented to me that he remembered our board sitting around a table more than 3 months ago reviewing scholarship applications and wondering how to help all the students and coaches who needed it. Thank God we were able to fund the requests from Locust Grove, knowing that God Himself was the provider!
With that tangible example of God working through FCA summer camps, our board is even more committed to raising funds for scholarships for the 2012 camps. We will set aside all funds from the FCA Golf Classic on for these scholarships. Operational needs of this FCA area will be met by regular monthly donors. We are certain God is pleased with this decision and will do more amazing works in the lives of area young people next year.
Thanks and God bless you.
